Amy Chua’s earlier book, “World On Fire: How Exporting Free Market Democracy Breeds Ethnic Hatred and Global Instability,” is also a good read and surprisingly not out of date.

I was just reading Design*Sponge and thought I'd take a look at the blog behind that fantastic beach home redo, and lo and behold, there's a post about books! It made my day to see that the bookshelves in the feature must be more than decorative--these books look like great reading. Have you read Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go? It's fantastic. I haven't read The Remains of the Day yet, so I can't tell you if it is equal or better, but The Remains of the Day is definitely on my must-read list, just as soon as I can get my hands on a copy.
