I am so happy to finally announce this – we’re expanding to serve the Los Angeles area wedding market!

Starting immediately, Lowe House Events is offering free travel for weddings in the greater LA area, and I (Elizabeth) will personally be down there every 4-6 weeks starting in late September to meet with clients in person, as well as work actively on continuing to build up our LA area vendor network (if you’re an LA area vendor – please get in touch – I’d love to buy you coffee/drink and chat!) So, if you’re currently looking for a wedding coordinator or planner in LA, please get in touch! – we’re starting to get close to booked for 2014, but I’ve been saving some slots for LA area weddings in preparation for this announcement.

I like to joke that I’m the only native Northern Californian who loves LA, but it’s true, I honestly do, and I’m really excited about the chance to spend more time there and get to know the city, which I already know fairly well, better through the event planning lens. Also to spend more time driving the 5, because I may be the only Californian period who thinks it’s one of the best drives in the world. I mean – don’t tell me this isn’t beautiful:

I have bathroom tile on the mind these days, and the image I always come back to is this one:

White, black and grey. Classic & timeless, will never feel dated, which in my opinion is what one should aim for with difficult-to-change things like tile.

Elisa Solomon rings

Catbird in Brooklyn is one of my favorite jewelry stores (I wear their heart ring and four of their alphabet earrings literally every day.)

While I pretty much covet their entire inventory, I’m really loving these new Elisa Solomon rings they’re carrying – the Ancienne Diamond Ring (left) and the Ancienne Infinite Love Ring (right.) Instant heirlooms indeed.

I like to make birthday resolutions every year*, and I generally like to keep them simple. This year my resolution is to send more thank you notes – it’s something I’ve been intermittently good at throughout my life, and it’s time to be consistently good at it. Because the only thing better than getting something handwritten in the mail is sending something handwritten in the mail.

Over the summer I had my friend Noah Breuer of 2×2 Press design and screenprint the cards above for my business – aren’t they great? (Noah is also an incredible fine artist, click on those links to see some of his work.) I need a good personal thank you card next – I have a variety of generic ones (mainly from Crane, who I will always heart,) but I think that streamlining my (at times ridiculously large) stationary collection would be a very good thing.

Anyone else make birthday resolutions? Any tips on how to make yourself stick to them?

*at New Year’s I usually assign myself a keyword, but more on that in January.

Sometimes, my friends, it is good to spend time lying on your back in the grass, looking up at the sky through a tree. I think that as adults we collectively don’t do this enough – let’s work on changing that.

Favorite Things: Kate Spade Darla wallet

When my last wallet (which was actually a vinyl West Elm business card case) wore out this winter, I started looking for something to replace it with. I had very specific requirements – very small, with an integrated keychain, and, of course, it had to be pretty. The only thing I could find that fit all of these requirements were Kate Spade’s Darla wallets, and, six months later, think I may be a Darla user for life.

For me, having a small wallet is key to not hauling around 5 years of old receipts – it’s size forces me to clean it out regularly, as it simply can’t hold too much more than I normally keep in it. It’s easy to grab and clip to my keys if I’m just running to the store and don’t want to bring my whole purse, and the bright yellow color means I can actually find it at the bottom of my often-giant bags. The Darla also has great interior pockets, which make it easy to organize the things I carry with me daily, and an ID pocket on the back side, so it’s been a while since I’ve had to search for my license at a bar. The version I have is sold out (I bought it on clearance right before xmas) but I’m loving this bright green Victoria Falls version.

A little pricey, perhaps, but the fact that it’s real leather, not to mention quality construction, means that it will last for years. And I’m a believer in the idea that paying for quality once is almost always cheaper in the end than buying a cheap item multiple times.
