We celebrated my grandfather’s 90th birthday over the weekend. It was simple and small, and really very lovely.
I have been incredibly lucky to have him as my grandfather – he has been the very essence of loving & supportive since the day that I was born. My sister and I are the only grandchildren on this (our Dad’s) side of the family, and our Mom likes to joke that our grandfather has always thought that we walk on water. It’s true – everything we’ve ever done, including educational and career choices that other family members have been less than enthusiastic about, have always been met by him with whole-hearted encouragement. He *knows* that we’re going to be successes, and it’s a pretty amazing thing to have someone believe in you like that.
Happy 90th Birthday Biggie!* I love you so much.
*our grandmother was from Alabama, and my dad grew up calling his grandparents the pretty traditional Southern names of Big Momma and Big Daddy. My sister and I started out calling our grandparents that, but they morphed into Nana and Biggie at some point in our childhood, and have stayed that way ever since.

You are lucky to have a grandfather who loves you so unconditionally!
