mod green pod sale

A client of mine (whose house I cannot WAIT to show you) and I recently decided to reupholster two chairs for her house in fabric from Mod Green Pod. One should be back from the upholsterer soon, and I cannot wait to see it. The fabric we picked for it (below) is *great.* (this one is going on the other chair. I haven’t seen it yet in person but just heard from my client that it arrived and she loves it.)

Anyways, Mod Green Pod is currently offering 50% off ALL of their in stock fabrics and wallpapers. Get yourself over to their website quick.

Caffe Streets

Charlie took me to Caffe Streets today because he knew that I would love the design of the interior. He was right – it is probably the prettiest coffee shop I’ve ever been in.  The lighting is particularly fantastic. (the coffee was also stellar. and I love their cups.)

Chicago, part 2

Part Two: Adventures in Chicago has involved everything that a good trip should involve, namely food, drinks, people. Those three things are really all I ever actually go on vacation for. Highlights from the last 24 hours have included: late night whiskey at Longman and Eagle, lunch at Belly Shack, way too much coffee (including stops at Ipsento & Caffe Streets,) cowboy boot day (did you not get the memo?) and rainy fun at the park with Ruca.

Chicago, part 1

Just as it finally got into the 70s at home, I decided to get on a plane and head to Chicago, where it is very much still winter (well, to me at least. Everyone who lives somewhere remotely cold is laughing at me right now for thinking that this is winter.) It’s OK though, I own a knee length down jacket that I love and rarely have reason to wear in California. Silver linings, people. The reason I’m here is to visit my best friend Charlie

and his lovely girlfriend Kim.

Also their new dog Ruca. Who is adorable.

Charlie is the educator (i.e. trainer in fancy-coffee-world-speak) at the Broadway Intelligentsia. Which means that I get to set up my laptop and work from the cafe while he’s on shift. Which is one of the reasons I love coming here – I get to take a working vacation, and I get to completely over-caffeinate myself on excessive amounts of the world’s best coffee. If you have never had Intelligentsia coffee, you need to get yourself to Chicago or LA as soon as possible.

More Chicago adventures to come.

love this new painting by Michelle Armas. Her work is gorgeous – I’m determined to own one of her large pieces one day. (giant art makes me happy)

chair peek

I inherited a “faux” vintage Eames lounge a year and a half ago when my grandparents moved from their home into an assisted living facility (it’s the best copy I’ve ever seen, but definitely not the real thing.) I recently had it reupolstered, and am so, so happy with how it turned out. I’ll post full before and after pictures soon, but here’s a peek:

I used Thomas Paul’s Aviary fabric in Tangerine for the bulk of it, which I found at Calico Corners for $18.74/yd – a crazy, crazy, steal (it usually retails for over $50/yd) and then piped it in brown linen that I bought as a remnant from my upholsterer. It makes me happy every time I walk into my bedroom.

Newness

It seemed somehow appropriate for the first photo on my new site to be the same as the last photo on my old site. I also love this tray in my bathroom – I strongly believe that trays are one of the best decorative and organizational objects out there – I use them *everywhere.* More photos in the future. In the meantime – welcome! Yay for new websites!
